| "When the time comes to present ourselves before God's divine goodness, to speak to God face to face, which is what we call prayer, simply the presence of our spirit before God and God's before ours forms prayer whether or not we have fine thoughts or feelings . . . God is touched with the prayer of a soul so simple, humble, and surrendered to God's will." Jane de Chantal, Letters, 84-5
Community Prayer
We strive to keep prayer at the very heart of all we do. Our union with God, our life in community, and any apostolic fruitfulness flow from our contemplative life.
We participate in the Eucharist daily where we enter into the paschal mystery and the celebration of Christ's presence in our daily lives. Throughout the day we live in the spirit of the Word of God spoken to us in the breaking of the bread.
In our daily celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours we further extend the paschal event as we mark the sacredness of time. Through this prayer we offer to God the joys and sorrows of all people; the cries of the poor and oppressed; the tears of the sinful and the suffering; and the praise of the forgiven and forgiving. We gather to sing the Liturgy of the Hours at five different times during the day.
Personal Prayer
We cultivate an inner personal gentleness and a simple openness and sensitivity to God's presence within. Our time of personal prayer twice during the day consists in resting quietly in the presence of the Lord. This prayer of the heart is the very essence of our Visitation charism.
Reading of the Scriptures holds an important place in our lives and is a source of nourishment for our times of personal prayer. We also find further enrichment in spiritual reading and faith sharing.
Realizing that true interior silence implies an inner self that is alive and peacefully present to the living God, we take care to foster in our monasteries an environment in which each Sister can be open to this stillness of communion.
Devotion to the Sacred Heart touches into the very heart of our charism with emphasis on the gentleness and non-violence of Jesus as portrayed in the gospel. It speaks of the love of the heart of Jesus and his desire to offer healing and forgiveness to all his people. It is an invitation to us to "Live Jesus" faithfully and lovingly. |
