The Brooklyn Visitation was founded in 1855, from Baltimore for the glory of God, to meet the needs of the Church through prayer and education. In response to God's action in the present moment, we feel a prophetic call to transmit the gentle and humble Visitation charism into the future, in the spirit of St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal.

Our call to be a gentle presence in a violent world is reflected in living Jesus from the heart of the Gospel, an outgoing call to conversion of heart. We express this in a particular way through living and promoting devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Through a spirit of listening, love and service in our daily lives, we experience the mystery of the Visitation, expressed in our relationships with God, ourselves and others. Living this mystery in respect, openness and trust invites us to be both Mary and Elizabeth for each other in community.

As Visitation Sisters, we feel committed to carrying out our mission of prayer and education in the Church by living a deep prayer life. We look at our world and recognize our identity with the brokenness of humanity calling out for the healing power of God.

Therefore, we are challenged to live this commitment faithfully by allowing the Word of God to become effective in our lives, in community living as well as in our apostolate.
