In 1873, six Sisters of the Visitation came up the Mississippi River from St. Louis to St. Paul at the request of Bishop Thomas Grace to begin a new community. Their ministry was to be the education of young women and their new school opened that year with twenty-nine pupils. Since then, the community and the school have outgrown several locations. Today the community of Sisters and the school are located in Mendota Heights, a suburb of St. Paul.
We are a monastic community dedicated to prayer, and from our cloister we also serve the needs of the local church primarily by our contemplative presence. Passing on our Salesian heritage, a focus for us, is mainly done through ministry in our school, and through our writings and outreach to various lay groups. |
