Called to the hill country, like Mary, the Sisters of the Visitation responded to the needs of God's people in western Virginia in 1848. Courageous pioneers, gracious, compassionate, gentle women, they proclaimed the Gospel message by their lives of prayer and presence, and their work of education.

Today, in their tradition, we are informal and independent individuals, accessible to all persons and willing to risk for the sake of charity. We live in great respect for one another, and are open and free in expressing our personal views and attitudes.

Accepting our limitations, we go forth to the wider community with an invitation to holiness. Aware of sociological/environmental issues, we support others by giving to them a positive Salesian image. We renew our sense of mission by encouraging lay leaders to grow even more in the spirit of Francis and Jane.

We shall continue to be a community that pursues an ever deepening and genuine contemplative dimension of our life as we remain a Salesian presence in our Academy and beyond.
